KIRKBY claimed promotion to North Lancs and Cumbria Division One after a last-day victory over Vickerstown.

The match decided the destination of the Division Two title, with the Villagers going into the clash five points clear of their visitors at the top.

The Walney side were first in and produced a determined batting display, without ever being really being on top.

They were able to post a defendable total of 148 for 9 in their 50 overs. Skipper Gareth Benson top-scored with 32 not out, Craig Daly made 31, and Matthew Roskell 23.

For Kirkby, Tom Marshall took 3 for 30 in 10 overs and Mike Etchells ended with figures of 3 for 32 in 15 overs.

The pick of the Vickerstown attack was George Scott, who bowled 15 consecutive overs and took 2 for 22.

League secretary Colin Bickerstaffe presented the newly-donated Ted Smith Memorial Trophy to Fugler and medals to the winning Kirkby side.
