KIRKBY and Vickerstown will do battle for the North Lancs and Cumbria League Division Two title tomorrow.

After five months of action, only five points separate the sides at the top of the league, with everything to be decided at the Community Centre.

While Furness have already been crowned Premier Division champions – and received the trophy following their win over Haverigg last weekend – and Dalton have taken the Division One crown, it is in the third tier where all attention will be this weekend.

Kirkby had looked to be nailed-on for the title, but the withdrawal of Lanercost from the competition meant points gained against them were wiped out and the race for first place was very much on again.

They hold a five-point advantage over Vickerstown going into tomorrow’s fixture and are bang in-form after demolishing Lindal Moor A last weekend.

Mike Etchells took 6 for 18 with the ball as Kirkby dismissed their hosts for 99 and they knocked the runs off to move back to the top of the standings with one weekend left.

Vickerstown had no game last weekend, but their last outing was against Lindal as well – a game they won thanks in part to Craig Daly’s 36 with the bat and Danny Williams’ bowling return of 3 for 3.

The sides have been well-matched this season, though it was Kirkby who won when the teams met in May at the Community Centre, with 64 from opening batsman James Thornton and three wickets apiece from Etchells and Matthew Bruce helping to see them home.

Matthew Roskell top-scored with 52 for Vickerstown that day and he has been a regular run-scorer and wicket-taker during the season.

In the Premier Division tomorrow, champions Furness head to Cockermouth – who for so long had hoped the match would be a title-decider.

Instead, the Oxford Street side have the trophy already in their cabinet and celebrated by defeating Haverigg by six wickets last weekend.

Brad Chapples hit 59 and Nathan Waterston 50 and both are in form for the tricky trip north.

There will be history at Pennington Lane in Division One tomorrow as Lindal Moor play their final game with the old pavilion.

Funding has been acquired for a new structure to be built to replace a building which has parts dating back to the 1920s.

The pavilion will be knocked down in the close-season and the new one is set to be built before the start of the 2016 campaign.

Lindal host Millom on the field tomorrow.
