FURNESS made it six North Lancs Premier Division titles in seven years after a dominant victory at Wigton.

With nearest challengers Cockermouth defeated by Workington, the Oxford Street side claimed a third league trophy in succession with two weeks of the season to go.

Their triumph was built on a superb bowling display in North Cumbria, where Wigton batted first and were dismissed for 80 – the third weekend in a row they have failed to reach three figures.

Peter Lawson was the best of the visiting bowlers as he returned figures of 4 for 31, while Jordan Buchanan took 3 for 2 and professional Calvin Savage – in his penultimate appearance for the club – 3 for 26.

Furness went to a comfortable win, making 81 for 1, with Ryan Griffiths finishing unbeaten on 61.

The champions had gone into the weekend expecting to have to take 15 points from Wigton and this weekend’s home game against Haverigg.

But the 10 from Saturday proved enough as Cockermouth lost a nail-biter at home to Workington.

The hosts batted first and struggled throughout their innings, ending all out for 90. Skipper Gareth White top-scored with 25.

Matthew Lowden again showed his emerging talent with the ball, taking 3 for 15 in 10 overs.

In reply, Workington were equally tentative with the bat, but Matthew Gorley’s 30 helped them just scrape home at 91 for 9.

Cockermouth professional Fahad Masood again shone with the ball, taking 4 for 20 in 15 overs.

There was no play due to rain in the games between Haverigg and Cleator and Keswick and Whitehaven.

In Division One, only one match was played, as Carlisle triumphed at Egremont to climb to second behind Dalton.

The North Cumbrians batted first and made a steady start, seemingly on their way to building a big score. But the last six batsmen totalled only eight between them and Carlisle were 144 all out.

Justin Greaves made 57 and James Dawson 38, while Egremont skipper Dave Raynor took 4 for 41 in 15 overs and Sam Farrar claimed 3 for 27 in 10 overs.

After tea, Egremont lost three early wickets before Raynor – with 63 – John Paul Dixon – with 24 – made a good recovery. But the home side were all out for 129.

Phil Frazer, with 4 for 25, and Tom Carlyle, 4 for 46, put their side in second spot.

In Division Two, leaders Vickerstown had first knock against Lindal Moor A at Rainey Park and Craig Daly top-scored with 36 in an all out total of 139.

Lindal also found scoring difficult and, despite 35 from Lee Stephens, were all out for 89. Danny Williams returned 3 for 3

Kirkby entertained Cockermouth A, who batted first and struggled to 115 for 7, Andy Dodds making 43. Kirkby went to a comprehensive win, making 116 for 1. James Thornton led the way with 54, supported by Paul Fugler on 34 not out.

Hawcoat Park batted first at Cleator A and had a poor day with the bat to be dismissed for 88, Callum Lucas making 28. Cleator’s Rhees Hughes took 4 for 15 in 11 overs.

Cleator soon went to the win with 93 for 1. Scott Kiggins made 42 not out, with Stephen Lee also unbeaten on 25.
