DALTON CC have an extra reason to celebrate a fantastic season, with seamer Adam Gibson winning the league’s bowling averages.

Gibson played a major role in the Ulverston Road side’s title-winning North Lancs and Cumbria League Division One campaign, taking 48 wickets at just 9.56 apiece.

That superb effort with the ball earned Gibson the FH Moore Division One players’ player-of-the year-award, while his team-mate Liam Curwen took the division’s Malcolm Beatty wicketkeeping award with 16 catches and four stumpings.

Gibson pipped Ulverston professional Majeed Jehangir to the bowling award, with the Pakistani professional claiming 50 scalps at 11.52 each, which included a perfect 10-wicket haul in a derby victory over Lindal Moor.

Jehangir also topped the Division One batting averages, after amassing 799 runs at 66.58.

Lindal all-rounder Mark Daly figured high up the rankings in both the batting and bowling charts – scoring 601 runs at 40.07 and taking 39 wickets at 12.28.

Premier Division champions Furness were well represented in the averages, with South African professional Calvin Savage finishing runner-up behind Keswick’s Geeth Kumara in the batting charts, scoring 797 runs at 53.13.

Kumara finished top for the second year running, scoring 931 runs to average just over 93.

And Furness’s left-arm spinner Jordan Buchanan enjoyed another good season with the ball, claiming 44 victims at 9.86 each.

The top-flight bowling averages were won by Cockermouth pro Fahad Masood who grabbed 64 wickets at just 7.50 apiece.

Kirkby opener Paul Fugler took the Division Two leading run-scorer award, after helping the Villagers claim the title with 453 runs at 32.36.

Vickerstown seamer Danny Williams claimed the division’s bowling award with 31 wickets at 9.06 each, while his club skipper Gareth Benson finished as leading wicket-taker with 53 scalps.

It was a good season for two of Hawcoat Park’s leading players, with Callum Lucas winning the players’ player-of-the-year award – he scored 447 runs at 40.64 – while Chris Savage earned the wicketkeeping honours with 14 catches and two stumpings.

The Division Three averages were dominated by Windscale’s Stuart Todhunter, whose 444 runs at 40.36 and 20 wickets at 10.15 saw him top the batting and bowling charts.

Ulverston’s Derek Harker took the divisional wicket-keeping award after performing well with the gloves.

Award winners will be presented with their prizes at the league’s annual presentation dinner, which takes places in Barrow’s Lisdoonie Hotel, on Saturday, October 31 (7pm start).

The league’s annual general meeting takes place at Furness CC on the same day, with a 2pm start.
