HARD-HITTER Liam Livingstone aims to cap a stellar week on what is set to be the biggest day of his Lancashire career.

The Barrow batsman is part of the Red Rose squad heading to Edgbaston to battle it out on Twenty20 Finals Day.

Lancashire face Hampshire in the Natwest Twenty20 Blast semi-finals tomorrow as they aim to go one better than last year, when they finished as runners-up.

Livingstone, who this week penned a new contract to extend his stay at Old Trafford, made his first-team debut in the short form of the game and at one-day level this season.

He hit a match-winning 91 on his Royal London One-Day Cup debut against Kent at Canterbury earlier this month and wants to help Lancashire to trophy success.

“We’re hoping to try and win it,” said Livingstone, who was playing club cricket on last year’s final day and kept in touch with how events unfolded from afar. “It’s one of the days everyone looks forward to in the year and everyone tries to get to the finals. I think it’s just about enjoying it.

“They lost in the final last year, so they were quite unlucky. The lads are looking to go one better this time.

“The boys have all said it’s a great day and one to enjoy. At the end of the day, although it’s all about winning, you’ve got to remember that it’s just two games of cricket. What you have to do is win two games of cricket and you’re the champions.

“The boys are excited about it. We know what it takes to get to the final and we’re just out to repeat last year – only go one step further.

“Everyone’s focus is on Saturday. It’s a massive day for everyone and a massive day for the club. Hopefully, fingers crossed, everything goes well and we will see what happens.”

He added: “I’ve been going well the last few weeks and hopefully I can play well wherever I bat or if I play. Hopefully it will go well.

“It will be the biggest day of my cricketing career.”

Lancs were beaten by hosts Birmingham Bears in the 2014 final and could face them again in this year’s showpiece if they each come through the semi-finals. The Bears face Northamptonshire in the first semi-final at 11am, with Lancashire taking to the field at 2.30pm. The victors in each are back in action in the final, starting at 6.45pm.

Should Livingstone feature, it would be a fitting end to the week in which his new deal at Old Trafford was announced.

He is happy to have his future secure with the Red Rose county, and said: “It gives you a chance to relax and express yourself, play your own game without any pressure from that area.

“There will be pressures from yourself and trying to help all the lads do well, but it takes a little bit of pressure from knowing you have your future sorted.”

He added: “I think how I have played has helped (earn the contract). I haven’t done as well as I wanted to in the Twenty20, but I played really well on my debut in the one-day game.

“Hopefully I have showed what I can do and I can build on that next year.

“Everyone wants to play in all forms and that (playing in the County Championship) is my aim for next year. Hopefully I can progress and push my case forward in all forms.”
