HAWCOAT Park have wrapped up the Alan Myerscough Ulverston and District Bowling League Division One title with one week to go before the season draws to a close.

The champions finished their fixtures with an 11-3 victory against Walney Park.

They also enjoyed another triumph, with Simon Brown claiming the individual merit after coming from behind in their final fixture to shade two of his team-mates to the title.

In claiming the prize, he lost only one game out of his 19 matches played.

As well as Brown, there were wins for Mark Johnson, 21-6, Colin Knipe and Wilf Heywood.

Walney Park’s points came from Keith Dixon, Chris Whitehouse and Doug Millburn.

Second place will go to last year’s champions Lindal Moor, who cannot be caught following their 11-3 defeat of Co-op SC.

At the other end of the table, Barrow Island played West Mount in what was a relegation decider.

This resulted in a 13-1 defeat for West Mount, who make a quick return to Division Two having only gained promotion last season.

In Division Two, Hawcoat Park are looking to make it a league double as their A-team currently sit top with a game to play.

Their closest rivals Glaxo SK trail by nine points, but have a game in hand, so the title will go to the wire.

Two victories will not guarantee a Glaxo win.

The leaders play Dalton CC A, while Glaxo take on Co-op SC A and Ulverston Cons.

In the latest results, there was a 14-1 success for Hawcoat Park A at Glaxo A, while Glaxo were winning 10-5 at Dalton CC A.

Third place in Division Two is tight between Kirkby and Dalton CC A, with the former likely to shade matters.

The Division Two merit is between Dave Turnough, of Kirkby, and Andy Rigg, of Askam A, both players having won 22 games, with the former having the better figures.

Both players are at home for their next game and, should they each claim victory, the top honour could rest on the size of their wins.

The play-offs are set for Sunday, September 12 at Walney Park and King Alfred starting at 10.15am.

Clubs are asked to indicate who will be representing them prior to the event.
