GLAXO and Hawcoat Park are on the brink of an immediate return to the top-flight of the Ulverston and District Bowling League.

With the campaign entering its final month, both sides have one foot back in Division One of the Alan Myerscough-sponsored competition.

With half-a-dozen matches to play, the title is Glaxo's to lose, as they hold a 17-point lead, with third-placed Kirkby a further 16 points back.

All the leading three won their latest games, with the surprise package being bottom-of-the-table Roose Cons A, who triumphed 10-5 at Glaxo A for only their third victory of the season.

Rewarded for their efforts were Charlie O’Hare, 21-7, Trevor White and Barry Pooley.

In Division One, the situation is even more assured as leaders Hawcoat Park lead second-placed Lindal Moor by 30 points, with the latter having a game in hand.

Lindal’s slow start to the season has been costly, with a number of players unavailable on a regular basis, forcing them to drop their A-team. As a result, they took some time settling into the season.

Having found form, they have overtaken Walney Park – who for a long time occupied second place.

King Alfred all but put to bed their relegation fears with a 9-5 success over Askam. It was an all-round team affair, with the top-five all winning.

Roose Cons were another team to emerge as 9-5 victors, beating third-placed Walney Park. There were wins for Derek Yates, 21-6, Daniel Edmonds, 21-8 and James Duffin.

Walney’s pick were Chris Whitehouse, 21-9, Paul Hewitson and Jeff McDougal.
