ONE of the finest military bands performs in Furness next week, with a concert at The Forum.

Ahead of an appearance at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo this summer, the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Scotland will be playing all over Scotland and the North of England.

On Saturday June 11 they will perform at the Barrow venue, bringing their repertoire of popular classics, big band, stimulating contemporary works and entertaining solo features.

They have “Beating the Retreat” on Horseguards Parade London, and provided the music for homecoming parades and Remembrance Services. Equally renowned for their concert performances, their repertoire embraces all kinds of music including popular classics, music of the Big Band era, exciting contemporary works and amusing solo features which all combine to produce programmes that are both entertaining and spectacular.

The inclusion of the Corps of Drums brings movement, colour and a flavour of the Ceremonial and State occasions of which Royal Marines Bands are such an integral part. This ensures that the grand spectacle of the traditional Concert Finale is presented as a fitting climax with appropriate pomp and drama.

Most members of the Band play at least two instruments, with some being required to play three. All are required to perform different styles of music including wind band, marching band, big band, orchestral and dance band engagements.

They also provide many small combinations including jazz, string and woodwind ensembles, making the Royal Marines musician one of the most adept in the military music world. Engagements can range from parades and mess functions to recordings and charity fund raising concerts. The Band actively supports many charities both service and non-service.

The Band is currently under the direction of Captain Daryl Powell RM who assumed command in September 2015.

Barrow Borough Council will host this celebration of the 115th Anniversary of the Town’s link with the Royal Navy Submarine Service.

The concert starts at 3pm, and tickets are available from The Forum box office
