AN Evocative performance and installation launches this month as part of the Lakes Alive cultural programme.

Flight takes off with a series of site-specific performance journeys over four evenings at Brockhole, from Thursday July 7 to Sunday 10, and will continue in the form of an innovative installation through the historic house and grounds near Windermere until July 17.

Co-commissioned together with 14-18 NOW, the UK's arts programme for the First World War centenary, Flight by Geraldine Pilgrim Performance Company is a promenade performance that celebrates our desire to fly.

The journey walks you through the evolution of flight to reveal Brockhole’s fascinating past, the rich history of Cumbrian aviation and images of First World War young airmen and the people they left behind.

Audiences encounter the performance in a group of 25 people over one hour, making it a truly special and memorable experience. The show features a large cast of voluntary performers from across Cumbria.

Internationally-renowned artistic director Geraldine Pilgrim and her team are behind this extraordinary production. She brings her flair for powerfully evocative transformations of buildings and landscapes to Brockhole on Windermere, a visitor attraction run by Lake District National Park for the first time.

The former Victorian merchant’s home and historic arts and crafts gardens are given a fully immersive makeover to transport you through the excitement, intrigue and perils of flight.

Geraldine Pilgrim is a director, designer and installation artist who creates site-specific events, and works across theatre and visual arts often in collaboration with local people. She specialises in installations and performances in unusual buildings and landscapes drawing on the architecture of the site for inspiration to create a captivating narrative of the past, present and future dreams of the site.

Tickets for the performances - which run at 5.30pm, 6.15pm, 7pm, 7.45pm and 8.30pm each night - are available now from www.brockhole.co.uk

The free installation is available to view from Monday July 11 to 17.
