PICTURES of Barrow-born Liverpool captain Emlyn Hughes were sold at auction yesterday in a sale of hundreds of items from the club’s old main stand.

Star items in the sale at Liverpool by sporting specialists Graham Budd Auctions including £28,000 for a maquette, or model, for the famous Tom Murphy sculpture of club manager Bill Shankly.

Four large crests off the top of the stand made up to £8,000 each and groups of five linked seats from the dugout area made up to £1,500 a set.

The highest price for the Emylyn Hughes items was £280 for a framed photograph of the player running out of the player’s tunnel.

It was once on show in the Legends Lounge in the old main stand at Anfield and came with a certificate of authenticity issued by Liverpool Football Club.

Emlyn Hughes, whose statue stands on Abbey Road, Barrow, played for Liverpool from 1967 to 1979 and won 62 England caps. He died in 2004.

A picture of him in England strip made £120 and the same amount took a large wall display picture noting that he was the first Liverpool Captain to lift the European Cup.
