AN ORDNANCE bomb washed up on Walney has been disposed of by a controlled explosion.
HM Coastguard were alerted to the object on Tuesday evening and an investigation was launched to identify what it was. This had to be abandoned as darkness fell.
It area described as "the cottages" was cordoned off last night and this morning.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit went back to the scene at lunchtime once the tide has gone back out.
The bomb was blown up safely at 2.30pm.
