A LINDAL woman who caused a crash on the A590 near Ulverston and was presumed to have fallen asleep at the wheel has pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention.

Samantha Hocking, of London Road, appeared at Furness Magistrates' Court yesterday and admitted the charge, which related to a crash on the A590 westbound carriageway where the road goes from two lanes to one lane just before the Murco petrol station.

In details of the charge given in the court listing, the 50-year-old is said to have collided with the rear of a Vauxhall Zafira for an "unknown reason", then overtook the car and a second, before colliding with a Ford Transit on August 26 of last year.

The court listing states: "You could not remember how the collision occurred and an assumption was that you have fallen asleep whilst driving."

All vehicles involved, including Hocking's Ford Ka, suffered extensive damage and the driver of the Transit van suffered back injuries.

Hocking was fined £200 and her driving licence was endorsed with nine points. She was also ordered to pay costs of £80 and a £20 victim surcharge.
