A MOTORIST who denied causing death by dangerous driving after fatally colliding with a teenager has admitted the charges.

Kyle Sam Alan Braithwaite was due to stand a “trial of issue” yesterday after previously denying the charges of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Jessica Quayle The hearing followed the death of student nurse Jessica Quayle, 19, who died on July 7 last year after being struck by a Peugeot 206, driven by Braithwaite, in Mountbarrow Road, Ulverston.

Her cousin, Sandra Nevison suffered life threatening injuries in the same collision.

When he appeared at Preston Crown Court yesterday, 24-year-old Braithwaite changed his pleas and admitted both charges.

In addition, he had earlier pleaded guilty to possession of 17.2g of cannabis on July 7.

Proceedings were adjourned until November 10, when Braithwaite, of Beckside Road in Ulverston, is due to be sentenced at Preston Crown Court.

He was granted unconditional bail.

On the day of the fatality, emergency services were called to the collision scene shortly before 1.30pm following reports that two pedestrians had been struck by a vehicle.

Miss Quayle, of Dalton, was pronounced dead shortly after, while Miss Nevison was transferred to Royal Preston Hospital and later Blackpool Victoria Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The pair had been walking their dogs along Mountbarrow Road from Birkrigg Common in the direction of Ulverston.

A family tribute issued at the time of the crash described Miss Quayle, who had been training to become a nurse, as “a beautiful fun-loving girl who had a real zest for life”.

The tribute said: “(Jess) loved socialising with friends especially shopping Her main passion was music, she was always singing, dancing and laughing.

“She loved her family very dearly including her pet dog.”
