A LAVISH ceremony which included tandem cycling and a ring bearing dog was the first for an iconic landmark.

Shelley Spencely-Barlow, 43, from Staveley had her dream wedding at The Hoad in Ulverston last month.

After reuniting with an old friend at the Ulverston Lantern festival in Ford Park last year, Mrs Barlow fell in love with Russell Spencely-Barlow, 44, from Walney.

The pair grew close and it wasn't long until they had their first kiss on top of The Hoad.

An engagement was soon to follow and an elaborate wedding was on the cards.

Mrs Barlow's creative imagination took over and after a first kiss and a proposal on The Hoad it seemed only fitting they should exchange their wedding rings there too.

The couple tied the knot on September 4 and were married on a beautiful, sunny day surrounded by 200 of their closest friends and family members who all made the steep walk.

Mrs Spencely-Barlow arrived at her big day on a tamdem bicycle with her father cycling and the Kookaburra all stars samba style band welcoming them.

According to Mrs Barlow a highlight of the day was having their wedding rings arrive via her nephew's Great Daine.

She said: "All the important things in our relationship have centred around The Hoad so it was the perfect location.

"Euphoria completely over took as our wonderful guests showered us in fresh flowers after the ceremony."

To mark the occasion Mrs Barlow's aunt had even sewn the couple a flag which was flown on top of The Hoad.

After everyone had lunch which was set up inside the Sir John Barrow Monument, the guests made their way to Grizebeck. Some walked down the hill and some cycled.

Mrs Spencely-Barlow cycled with her husband - in her wedding dress.

The rest of the day was celebrated at the Grizebeck Community Hall, which was lavishly decorated by Mrs Barlow's sister, Stacey Donnelly.

To end the speeches Mrs Barlow, with some of her friends and family, performed a flash mob dance for her new hunsband.

She said: "The day was amazing, it couldn't have gone better and I would just like to thank everybody who helped with the preparations and also to everyone who made the day so special.

"I love his every fiber."
