A TEENAGE music prodigy has ticked off another major milestone by staring in her own music video.

Jess Gillam, 17, from Ulverston, has become one of the area’s most well-known saxophonists since she began playing 10 years ago.

She has received several scholarships and awards and has even performed with musician and composer Jools Holland.

Last weekend she spent two days filming a music video for a piece called The Sky’s the Limit .

The music was written especially for Jess by renowned saxophonist and composer Barbara Thompson.

Mrs Thompson and her drummer husband, Jon Hiseman, visited the Lake District for three days last week.

Accompanying them was cameraman Asue Azar to film Jess playing in various locations.

Mrs Thompson’s music has been heard by millions of people as she has written the music to TV shows A Touch of Frost and The South Bank Show .

She has worked with a huge variety of artists from Andrew Lloyd Webber to Manfred Mann.

Jess said: “I gave the world premiere of the piece Barbara wrote for me at the World Saxophone Congress in July.

“Working with Barbara and Jon has been a truly inspirational experience – they are both so dedicated and passionate about what they do and really live and breathe music.

“Barbara has inspired me with her music since I was 12 years old and to now be working with her is quite a surreal experience.”

Mrs Thompson said: “It is a real treat to write a piece for such a talented young 17-year-old saxophonist, and I hope this will be the first of many collaborations”.

The video has been filmed at various locations around Ulverston and the Lake District including Lakeside, Birkrigg Common, Gillam’s Tearoom, Market Street, Old Hall Road, Jenkin’s Crag and on the Lakeside Steamers.

The music video is expected to be released later in the year.
