The second colour run, in aid of Hospice at Home West Cumbria, saw more than 500 people take part while 500 more flocked to Muncaster Castle near Ravenglass on Sunday to watch friends and family and loved ones attempt the 1km and 5km circuits.
Both courses started at the castle at 10.30am, with runners making their way around the estate and gardens while being showered in coloured powder paint along the way, before returning to the finish line on the castle lawn.
Families made a day of it, with entertainment from a birds of prey display from Sky Hunters as well as the chance to explore the castle and its gardens.
Chrissie Cremins, of Hospice at Home West Cumbria, said: “We had more than 500 people taking part and more than 500 people watching, so we were really pleased with the turnout.
“We organised the first colour run in the county and this is the second time that we’ve done one.
“Although there was a bit of drizzle at the start of the day, the rain held out and everyone enjoyed themselves.
“Big congratulations to the winner of the 5km event, Craig Peet, from Egremont.
“Our 1km race was accessible to both wheelchairs and buggies which meant the whole family could take part.”
Although a final figure is yet to be confirmed, Mrs Cremins said that the amount raised appears to be very promising.
She said: “It’s tentative at the moment but through the money collected, our sponsorship pledge and funds from other events, it looks as though we’ve raised around £30,000.”
