POLICE have released a family photo of two Millom men who died in a car crash.

Aaron Heasley, 25, of Victoria Street, and Dean Heasley, 24, of Settle Street, died on Monday night when the car they were travelling in smashed into a tree on the A5093 near Millom.

Both men were former pupils of Millom School, which has also offered its sympathies. Aaron was the driver while Dean was the front seat passenger. A 26-year-old Millom man, also a passenger in the car, was taken to Furness General Hospital with serious leg injuries.

A spokeswoman for Millom School said: “The school is shocked and saddened by the news. We would like to offer our condolences to the family and friends from the school.”

Members of the community have rallied round in support of the families, leaving flowers and paying their respects to two immensely popular young men.

A family member, Rachel Heasley, commented on the Evening Mail’s Facebook page: “Not just my brother and cousin but my best friends. I’m going to love and miss you every second of everyday.”

Another family friend, Karen Pattinson, commented: “Rest in peace boys. You have left a huge hole in so many people’s lives.

“You are loved and will be missed by so many! I’ve such happy memories of growing up with you both over Queen’s Park and then later on Victoria Street playing out from first light until it was pitch black! Sleep tight and shine bright both.”

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The car is believed to have left the road at the left hand bend by the entrance to Ghyll Scaur Quarry and collided with a tree. The road was closed by police and re-opened at around 3am.

A total of 19 firefighters from Millom, Bootle and Broughton attended the scene of the crash.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to call Cumbria police on 101 and ask to speak to the Mobile Support Group.
