A BARROW nurse who called a patient an "attention seeking ****" has been struck off.

Tessa Simba also told the man that her boyfriend would "deck him" while working at Abbey Meadow Care Home in Barrow in October 2011.

She fell asleep while on duty and suggested leaving a patient in a torn incontinence pad during the same month.

A Nursing & Midwifery Council panel have now struck her off following three previous suspension orders.

Simba, originally from Zimbabwe, hit local headlines in Cumbria last year when it emerged she was making washable sanitary pads for African villagers out of towels, sheets and shower curtains.

Panel chairman Trevor Spires said: 'Miss Simba has not shown any further insight in relation to the charges. 'Regarding insight, the panel considered that the period of Miss Simba’s suspension to date had allowed her sufficient time to gain insight into her actions and to take action to remediate her shortcomings.

"She had, however, chosen not to do so during this period."

The panel had found Simba called Patient B an 'attention seeking ****' on October 30, 2011, and said her boyfriend would 'deck him' just days later. Simba also ignored Patient B's request for a urine bottle and suggested leaving him in a torn incontinence pad instead of changing it.

She also failed to respond to call bells for residents and fell asleep while on duty at the home. Ordering Simba's striking off Mr Spires and his fellow panel members decided another suspension order would not be necessary.

He said: "The panel notes that Miss Simba has never fully complied with the suggestions made by previous panels which have considered her case and, in particular, she has done nothing whatsoever to comply with the suggestions of the most recent reviewing panel.

"In the light of these considerations the panel determined that a further period of suspension would serve no useful purpose."

Simba, who was not present or represented at the hearing, will now be permanently struck off the medical register.
