The scheme to add 38 bedrooms, a spa and outside sports area to the Low Wood Hotel, between Windermere and Ambleside, will go before national park planners tomorrow.
The application is recommended for approval by the Lake District’s development officials who state it could help create a resort hotel for the area.
If given the go-ahead by members of the Lake District National Park Authority’s development control committee at their meeting at Murley Moss in Kendal, the proposal would also see a new entrance to the hotel created at its junction with the A591.
However, the application has drawn a series of objections from residents of the area and local organisations including the Ambleside Civic Trust and Cumbria County Council’s Local Flood Risk Management team with increased traffic and the impact on the Grade II listed hotel key concerns.
But a report to the committee by LDNPA planning officials states: “This is a substantial and important application for the hotel and potentially for the vision of the national park contributing to the delivery of a world class visitor experience.”
