The Evening Mail was given exclusive access today and a guided tour of the  building by Superintendent Rob O'Connor.

The majority of those who have worked on the site have been local and Burlington Slate is used throughout the inside and outside of the Andrew's Way building, Barrow.

A total of 76 CCTV cameras means you can't go anywhere on site without being seen.

Once through the plush entrance its into a large atrium decorated in plum and bright green. A huge spiral staircase leads up to the two floors above a which have video conference rooms, open plan offices, a canteen, gym and large custody suite.

On October 5 the station will become operational and officers will begin working from the new building.

Locals will be able to look around this Sunday when visitors will be taken on guided tours from 10am to 3pm, including a visit to the 18 cell custody area. The dog unit, police motorbike and armed response vehicles will also be there and children will be able to have their finger prints taken.

Admission is free and light refreshments available.
