A FURIOUS Barrow mum says a promised family beach party turned out to be a dangerous flop after a power cut.

The 37-year-old, who does not want to be named, said she headed along to the advertised event in Barrow Park after posters across Barrow promised Taylor’s Funfair with children’s rides, dodgems and a separate beach theme arena with chairs, sand and water pools.

She said she arrived at Barrow Park on the first day of the event’s one-week run last Saturday with her seven-year-old twins, one boy and one girl, and was horrified by what she saw.

The Barrow mum said: “It was described as a beach festival with trade stalls, a bouncy castle and rides. It said there were deckchairs, sand, water pools but it was a load of rubbish.

“I took my two children and we were really looking forward to it. When we got there there were three rides, dodgems,a ghost train and a baby ride plus a bouncy castle.

“The area supposed to be the beach had a bit of sand and a a few plastic chairs. There wasn’t even enough sand to build a sandcastle. You paid £10 to go on all the rides. But nothing was as it was advertised.

“Then the music and rides all stopped and the bouncy castle deflated with children still in the little dens inside. There was no electricity to power anything as the generator had run out of diesel.

“All you could hear was the kids shouting as they were stuck on the deflating bouncy castle. It was a giant Smurf whose mouth would open and shut. It was a definite health and safety matter with children becoming trapped.

“They could have been suffocated. I thought it was a glitch and left but I came back about two hours later and it was still out of action. It was a joke.

“It would have been seen as a good day out for some families who can’t afford a holiday but then they get there and are faced with that.

“It’s just typical of Barrow and extremely frustrating. I just don’t know why things like this happened.”

A spokesman for Taylor’s Fun Fairs said: “The power cut was due to a safety shut down in the generator.

“This is an automatic safety feature that cuts the generator out and it was caused by a filter problem. All children were removed from the inflatable safely.”
