Despite the mud, the sun is beating down as thousands of people begin turning up for the Ulverston and North Lonsdale show.

The show has gotten off to an exciting start, with a bull running loose in the horse ring earlier this morning, which has fortunately now been caught.

Horses and their riders have started taking to the show ring, dogs are being taken to get ready for their big moment in the spotlight at Alice’s dog show later on this afternoon, and crowds are slowly milling around the many stalls.

The smell of sausages and other delicious smells waft around the field as the crowds start getting bigger and bigger.

Prepping his British Blue cows, Robert Rawlinson, 16, from Marton in Ulverston,  said: “It’s been an excitable day so far. We have been looking forward to it for a while now, it is always a really good day out.”

Show secretary, Margaret Coward, said: “ We have spent 12 months planning this so we hope everything goes well but there is always bound to be a hiccup.

“We have all worked really hard together over the last week getting everything sorted for today.

“The rain overnight has made the field a bit muddier than we would have liked but there is quite a lot going on this year.”

With masses planned for the day including the Jez Avery stunt show, fancy dress pony parade, and endless judging of chickens, cakes and flowers, there is sure to be something for all ages.
