A BARGAIN hunter queued for four hours in Barrow in a bid to bag herself a new soup maker on Black Friday.

Millom resident Gina Sharpe, was the first to arrive at Tesco Extra in Barrow and had been queuing since 1am when the doors finally opened at 5am.

She was thrilled to have picked up just what she came out for, saying: "I have bought a soup maker. They are fantastic, they make beautiful soup which is really smooth. I did have a look at a new iPad too but I haven't decided on it yet."

Checkout manager Richard Sumpter said that after some raucous scenes at last year's Black Friday event, Tesco had brought in extra security, but it had been quite redundant as a quiet, orderly queue waited patiently causing no trouble.

He said: "We prepared really thoroughly this year as last year we had a bit of trouble. People were definitely much pushier last year and I am surprised so few have turned up this morning.

"I would expect more people will turn up before work and school, I might even have time to pick up a new TV myself!"

It seemed the discounted flat-screen televisions were the most popular product for Tesco's Black Friday in Barrow, countless Samsung and LG models were wheeled around. The new iPad Pro and BaByliss Curl Secret 2667U Hair Styler also among the most coveted for shoppers.

One couple who really took advantage of the sales were Paige Leah Bauer, 22 from Barrow, and her partner Andreas Zane Bauer, 30 from New Zealand. The pair decided to drop in at the sale when making an early morning trip to fetch Paige some cough medicine. They said: "We didn't know what to expect really. We didn't come with anything particular in mind, but we have ended up getting a TV, a printer, a tablet and a kindle!

"Once you start spending, it's difficult to stop and we have found some really good deals. There was £150 off the TVs so we bought one for our bedroom."
