Rod Stewart fans are being touted tickets costing more than £2,000 a pair for his Carlisle gig.

The heavily-inflated prices are being advertised on ticket reselling websites with a top pair of floor seats in Carlisle United’s Brunton Park stadium being touted for £2,090 on Viagogo.

A seller on website GetMeIn! was also advertising a pair of floor tickets for £2,082.

Earlier this week the News & Star revealed that some tickets had been advertised online for nearly three times their face value, ahead of yesterday’s general sale.

Thousands of fans moved quickly to snap up tickets to see the performer next summer.

A spokeswoman for promoters Cuffe and Taylor said: “It is safe to say all ticket agents have been inundated from pre-sale to the general sale with a huge demand for tickets to see Rod.”

The singer will be ending an eight-date UK tour at the city football ground, which will be turned into an all-seated open-air concert venue, on June 21.

Peter Taylor, the promoters’ director, condemned the hugely-inflated prices after the pre-sale opened and warned that some tickets could be invalid if sellers have broken terms and conditions.

Carlisle United themselves are hoping to use the gig to showcase their ground as a venue for future concerts involving big-name stars.

Phil King, the club’s sales and marketing director, said: “Brunton Park is a good location, a good venue and we have done this before.

“We know there will be a huge demand.”
