FIREFIGHTERS were called to a property in Barrow to reports of a kitchen fire. 

A ground floor kitchen in a property in Lorne Road, Barrow, was well alight on arrival of the fire crews at around 2.50pm. 

They wore breathing apparatus and used one hose reel to put out the fire. 

A thermal imaging camera was also used to check for hotspots. 

A suspected gas leak led to local houses being evacuated and a cordon being put in place until a gas engineer attended. 

Police also attended the scene. 

The main gas supply was isolated and the area declared safe shortly after 4.30pm. 

Nobody was injured in the incident.
