THE new vice chair of a team which aims to improve mental health care will use his personal experiences to shape his work.

Professor Rob Hulme will take up the voluntary position with Cumbria Mental Health Partnership this month.

The multi agency group, consisting of service users, carers, members of the third sector and the police, aims to develop a county-wide strategy for care provision using evidence-based interventions and a focus on recovery.

Prof Hulme will listen to the views of service users and their carers to ensure the focus is always on individuals.

The 52-year-old’s sister suffered from schizophrenia and his mother, a carer, lived with depression. He grew up very aware of mental health issues and their impact.
