MOTORISTS are being reminded to build in extra time for journeys starting next week.
Essential work will be carried out on the A591 at Ings between Windermere and Kendal.
Temporary traffic lights controlling a one-lane managed traffic flow will be in place from Monday September 7 for the duration of the work, which is expected to last three weeks.
The work has been timed to begin after the summer holiday season to mimimise disruption to local businesses and also to meet environmental restrictions around working in rivers and streams.
Traffic light controls are essential due to the nature of the work and to ensure the safety of contractors.
The work involves reconstructing an 8-metre length of the retaining wall on the road near The White House, at Ings.
The work is essential as parts of the retaining wall have already collapsed and there are signs of failure on the remainding sections. Doing the work now means that more serious disruption can be avoided further down the line.
The county council apologises in advance for any disruption caused by this essential work.
