CUMBRIA police are urging people not to take any risks with drugs after three more people are admitted to hospital.

Police can now confirm that three further people who attended Kendal Calling have been admitted into the Cumberland Infirmary hospital in Carlisle.

A 29-year-old man from Manchester is in a critical condition, a 34-year-old man from Manchester is in a serious but stable condition and an 18-year-old man from Carlisle is in a serious but stable condition.

There has been improvement in the condition of the two people who were admitted yesterday to the Cumberland Infirmary, however they remain in hospital.

A 19-year-old male from Millom is in a serious but stable condition and a 29-year-old woman from Bolton remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police cannot say with any degree of certainty which drug is causing these problems at this stage, therefore it is vital that people do not take any drugs at Kendal Calling.

There is still a risk that substances are being circulated on site and it is important that those attending the festival are aware of the potential dangers and significant risks in taking drugs and unknown substances, you cannot be sure of what they contain and this can seriously affect your health.

Kendal Calling continue to communicate very strong drug awareness messages across the festival site and advise anyone who feels unwell to speak to a member of staff immediately.

Dr Jane Mathieson, Consultant from Cumbria County Council Public Health, said: “I’d like to reiterate the police’s advice, these are powerful and dangerous substances which are simply not safe. Do not risk your health by taking any drugs.

“However, If you are to take drugs our advice is to consume as little as little as possible. Do not retake substances until you are confident that the effects have worn off. Also do not mix drugs with alcohol or other substances. Stay with friends and make sure you are with at least one sober person.

“If you or someone you know complains of feeling unwell, please seek help from a steward or attend the medical or welfare facilities. In an emergency dial 999.”
