IN a bid to avoid Black Friday chaos a Barrow store is introducing extra security, barriers and a ticket system.

In the wake of scenes of chaos in previous years, that saw shoppers scrambling for the best deals, Tesco Extra in Barrow has come up with a plan to help shoppers get the benefits of Black Friday in peace.

The shop will use barriers at the front of the store and have brought in additional security to ensure that the shopping event goes smoothly.

There will also be a ticketing system, allowing only 30 people into the store at a time and a limit on the number of items people can buy.

Community champion for the firm, Nat Welham believes that the shop is prepared for any eventuality on one of the biggest shopping days of the year.

Mr Welham said: “At Tesco Extra, we’ve got extra security barriers and extra security as well as the whole management team in store to help it go as smoothly as possible.

“At the front of the store we’ll have a ticket system, people will be allowed in in batches of 30 and they will only be allowed to purchase two of each item in the offers.

“People will be allowed in in stages, after the initial rush in the first hour or so, the shop will be open for the general public as well.”

While the supermarket opened at midnight last year, this Friday the shop will open at 5 in the morning to allow people to make the most of the deals and members of staff will be distributing tea and coffee for people.

Mr Welham said: “There will be TVs on sale in the offers in addition to other products but we can’t reveal what.

“We opened at midnight last year, but we’re going for a 5am opening this time following a decision from head office last week. You will be able to buy products online from midnight, but stores will only be open from five.

“While people are queueing up, we’ll be offering tea, coffee and bacon butties for people. People need to make sure they’re wrapped up warm, and if it’s raining we don’t want them to get soaked.”
