A mum faces jail after she was spotted drunk and with her hand around her child’s throat.

The woman was in Silloth when witnesses said she was drunk in a bar while her two children played in a nearby amusement area, the magistrates’ court in Carlisle heard.

Neil White, prosecuting, said one child was also spotted with his mother while she had her hand around his throat.

The woman pleaded guilty to four charges of assaulting, ill-treating or neglecting a child on August 1.

District Judge Gerald Chalk told the mum he took a “serious view of the offences”, adding he was considering a prison sentence.

She was bailed until her next appearance at the magistrates’ court on December 15.
