To get in the spirit of Halloween, Sarah Ramsey at Ken Riley’s Hairdressing shop in Crellin Street, Barrow, is holding a “Sweeney Todd” experience for her clients.

She has celebrated Halloween for years, but this year she wanted to bring the scare factor into work.

Celebrating the fact that she’s been doing cut throat shaves for a year, Mrs Ramsey has decorated the salon in true Halloween style. She has also arranged for a free meat and potato pie to be given to anyone brave enough to have a cut throat shave.

Mrs Ramsey said: “I have been a barber for 18 years and when I started doing the cut throat shaves a year ago I really didn’t expect the amount of interest I got.

“I thought it would be fun to hold a Sweeney Todd theme this year and because I go over the top for Halloween anyway I decided to bring it to work.”

The pies are being supplied by Baguette-Me-Not in Schneider Road, Barrow, because the owner of the store is a regular customer.

The fictional character Sweeney Todd, known as “the demon barber of Fleet Street”, was said to cut his customers’ throats before his accomplice Mrs Lovett baked them in pies.

Mrs Ramsey added: “We were just going to keep the theme running until Halloween but we’ve decided to hold it until bonfire night now, giving more people the chance to book in with me. That way everyone can get a slice of the pie.”
