A WEATHER warning has been issued after snow was forecast for Cumbria.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the county although the majority of the bad weather is only forecast to affect higher ground in Cumbria.

Electricity has been restored to properties across Cumbria which were affected on Sunday when power lines were damaged by the strong winds.

The weather warning, which is in place until 2pm today, states: "A band of rain will move east across Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and northern England on Monday morning and afternoon. Across northern parts of Northern Ireland and southern Scotland the rain is expected to turn to wet snow with 2 to 5 cm possible above about 150 m, and some slushy accumulations possible at lower levels. 10 cm may possibly occur above 300 m.

"Across northern England the snow is expected to be restricted to hills above about 400 m. Drier conditions will spread east through the late morning and early afternoon."
