A CRIMINAL with a history of committing petty crimes threatened to set fire to a supermarket after a row with the store manager.

Keanu Logan committed a string of offences while on bail and is now in custody at Preston Prison.

Furness Magistrates' Court was told yesterday that Logan, 20, was acting suspiciously in Aldi, Risedale Road, Barrow, when the manager confronted him on June 9.

Mr Foley recognised Logan who had previously been banned from the store.

He requested Logan leave the store but he refused and directed a number of expletives towards the manager.

Mr Lee Dacre, prosecuting, told the court that Logan then started to make threats to set both the store and the manager's car on fire.

Mr Michael Graham, defending, said: "There was choice language between both parties and a physical altercation."

After the incident Logan was also caught in possession of a small quantity of cannabis on two separate occasions, on July 31 and September 20.

During his time at the Dova Unit, an acute mental health inpatient unit based on the Dane Garth site of Furness General Hospital, staff became suspicious that the defendant had drugs, before he handed over his cannabis supply.

Logan was also charged with theft after he stole two packs of screwdrivers and spanners worth £38 from B&Q, at Cornmill Crossing, Barrow, on August 28.

In mitigation, Mr Graham, said: "He understands that his substance abuse is taking him nowhere."

In total, Logan admitted possessing cannabis, a Class B drug; using threatening abusive words and behaviour; and theft.

Magistrates gave Logan a six week sentence to run concurrently with his existing prison sentence.

He was also ordered to pay a £80 surcharge.

Logan had been due to be released from Preston Prison on November 26.
