FIRE crews in Barrow extinguished a refuse fire containing illegally tipped asbestos this morning.
Firefighters based at Barrow and Walney were called to Salthouse Road at 9.48am to tackle the blaze.
The area had to be cordoned off while crews attended the scene due to the risk to the public of exposure to the substance.
Cumbria police and Environmental Health were notified about the incident.
