A YOUNG boy who was frightened of getting his hair cut faced his fear head on in support of two charities.

William Bower, 11, from Newbarns in Barrow got his long hair cut on Friday August 7.

The young boy had been chatting to his mum's friend, Emma Deacon, when he made the decision.

Miss Deacon, 34, is a mother-of-two who is currently battling breast cancer.

She is part of the group Lookin Good Feelin Great, which consists of 15 women battling all types of cancer in the Furness area.

Miss Deacon said: "We were talking in the garden one day and I said to William jokingly isn't it about time you got your hair cut?

"We then got chatting about why I was wearing a wig and how Lookin Good Feelin Great is trying to become a registered charity."

For the group to become a registered charity it first has to raise £5,000 so William decided this was something he wanted to help with.

He also liked the idea that through Little Princess Trust his hair could be used to make wigs for children who are also battling cancer.

William said: "Getting my hair cut was exciting and nerve racking at the same time.

"I never liked getting my hair cut so I have always kept it long.

"I wanted to help children who have no hair and I think it's a really nice charity, I think both the charities are very important and it's nice to be able to help them."

Through sponsors William has managed to raise more than £200 which will be donated to Lookin Good Feelin Great.

Once a registered charity the money that they have raised will go towards the oncology department at Furness General and to Cancer Research.

William's mum, Amy Bower, helped her son to raise money by making sponsor forms and posting them on Facebook.

She said: "I was shocked when he decided to get his cut, what he has done is excellent and I couldn't be more proud of him."

If you would like to donate to Lookin Good Feelin Great then donations can be handed in to the Evening Mail office on Abbey Road, LA14 5QS.
