A CHILDREN'S author, whose works include a New York Times best seller, is hosting a launch party for his latest book today.

Russ Brown, is launching The Mechanics of Mechanicsville at The Forum in Barrow in an event which runs until 2pm.

Author Russ Brown reads one of his books. LINDSEY DICKINGS Mr Brown, a teacher at Vickerstown Primary School, Walney, was a guest author at the first Buzzing About Reading Festival last month, celebrating storytelling, the importance of reading for pleasure and encouraging parents to support their children's reading.

Mr Brown's books include Daisy the Donkey's First Fare, Monsters in my Math Book and The New York Times Best seller Poppy's Planet.

Mr Brown has again teamed up illustrator Jamie Cosley for the latest book.

The Mechanics of Mechanicsville is the story of how a small town, North East of the city of Richmond Virginia, nestled among lush forests and green fields got it’s name.

In Old Mechanicsville stands a stone windmill, now a landmark in the village. The windmill is decorative and driven by an electric motor. That windmill is said to house the mystical creatures known locally as “The Mechanics”.

Gwen Shaw, director of Matthew James Publishing said: “We are so proud to be working with such a great team on such a wonderful project.

“Russ and Jamie have created something that will be enjoyed by readers of all ages, everywhere.”

The publishers said Mr Brown's imaginative and educational style, brought about through years working as a teacher, is perfectly accentuated by Jamie’s colourfully vibrant illustrations.

Mr Brown and Mr Cosley have recently also been working together to create a monthly comic strip for the Walt Disney World Magazine.

Those attending can meet the author, get books signed and also grab some goodies.
