A MAN threw a lunch box and pushed a support worker after becoming frustrated at being asked to shave.

Simon David Healey, 47, of Abbey Road, Barrow, appeared before Furness Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

He pleaded guilty to assaulting Laura Storey by beating on June 30.

Prosecutor Mr Lee Dacre said: “The complainant is a carer where the defendant was.

“She came on duty at 8am and was in the kitchen area and the defendant was becoming aggressive to staff.

“She was standing in the doorway when he threw a lunchbox at her. Then he came up and pushed her backwards.

“The police were called and he told them he knew he was wrong and was sorry.”

Mr Dacre said that Healey had police cautions in 2014 and this year for assaulting staff members.

Mr Trystan Roberts, defending, said: “I was concerned at his last appearance because I wanted to make sure he understood what was happening.

“He is in supported accommodation and lives a semi-independent lifestyle.

“He has serious learning difficulties and mental health issues.

“Sometimes he can find things very frustrating and on this morning he was getting ready for work at Chatsworth Crafts.

“He had been told to have a shave but didn’t want one that particular morning.

“He lost his temper and threw the Tupperware box and when he was spoken to by the woman he pushed her against the wall.”

Magistrates gave Healey a 12-month conditional discharge but warned him if he lost his temper again he would find himself back before the courts.

No costs or compensation were ordered but he was told to pay a £150 criminal court charge and a victim surcharge of £15.
