THE owner of a successful market stall is delighted to be expanding her business as she opens up a shop in Barrow.

Andrea Scraggs has been a familiar face in Barrow market for more than four years, selling a range of accessories for formal events.

Andrea's Accessories began life as a small market stall but has gone from strength to strength and has now opened her own shop in Duke Street.

She said: "I'm really excited. I didn’t think I could afford a shop but when that came up it was too good to miss.

"I can use it to further my business so it works out great for me."

Mrs Scraggs kick-started her business as a jewellery manufacturer in 2011 and decided to branch off and sell a full range of accessories in the market.

She explained: "I started off in a small stall on the other side of the market but as things progressed I moved to a bigger stall.

"I moved here two years ago because I needed more space as I was selling more and there was more of a demand for fascinators and prom accessories."

The new shop will open on Friday July 31 and the businesswoman is hoping to introduce a new line to the business.

Mrs Scraggs said: "It means I can go bigger and better.

"The next step was always to open a shop because I wanted to do occasion wear as well.

"The shop is also going to sell occasion clothing for every event and everybody.

"It’s going to range from size eight to 28 and come in all sorts of colours."

Mrs Scraggs is famed for her complete range of products in a kaleidoscope of colours, but the 43-year-old market stall holder believes her success is down to more than just her products.

She explained: "I think the secret is to keep prices down and keep a big range of products - I do all colours and styles and I think that’s the key.

"I’ve found the best thing to do is to keep the prices down but also give a good service.

"People can take things home to try on with their outfits and bring them back if they’re not happy."

Mrs Scraggs is determined to maintain her high level of service but will strive to offer more to the people of Barrow as she realises her dream of owning her own shop.

She said: "I never dreamed I would own my own shop - I always wanted to but never thought it would happen."
