BIRD and insect-themed artwork has gone on display at one of Cumbria's most unique galleries.

The latest collection of local artists' work has gone on display at the Beach Hut Gallery at Kents Bank station, near Grange over Sands, celebrating native British wildlife.

On The Wing features work by a number of popular Cumbrian artists, including: Fiona Clucas, who is inspired by the beautiful countryside around the head of Morecambe Bay and her own garden, a haven for plants and creatures; Derek Setford with his intricate wood engravings and botanical studies of kestrels, geese and heron; Lesley Edmondson's meticulous watercolours; and Gwenda Meredith's stunning giant butterfly and moth lithographs.

Judy Evans has a range of fantastic bird-themed canvases inspired by Scottish landscapes. She has for many years been a paper maker and screen printer and has been instrumental in setting up two widely acknowledged arts events in south Cumbria - The Witherslack Artists and Makers Group annual exhibition and Printfest, an annual print fair which takes place in Ulveston.

All these fantastic artists' work is displayed together with a variety of work by cooperative members and associates, with pieces available to buy.

The gallery was founded in 2008, and has proved to be an important link for local artists, having renovated the disused public conveniences at the station and converting it for use as an exhibition space.

On The Wing will be on display until July 17.

The gallery is open Thursday to Sunday, from 10.30am to 5pm, and entry is free.
