WITH flips and trips and steady grips, Pancake Day has always been a family affair.

By taking another glance back into our picture archives we can reveal snapshots which give an insight into Shrove Tuesdays gone by.

Fundraising races and pancakes flipped to perfection all feature.

In Broughton and Lindal, both young and old were in the running to be the best pancake flipper as adults and children took part in charity fun runs.

And for the Sadler Twins, Pancake Day in 1990 was double the fun as it coincided with their sixth birthdays.

But Pancake Day didn't fall flat of expectations for top chefs either.

Then head chef, David Cowap looks thrilled as he demonstrates his perfect pancake technique in the kitchens at Abbey House Hotel, Barrow, in 1991.

Vera Trelore, a cook at Furness General Hospital, is also pictured showing off her pancake-flipping prowess in 1992.

Whether it involved a charity fun run or a test of cooking expertise, Pancake day was never batter.
