BRAVE Millom mechanics will battle through a fearsome obstacle course of electric wires and scorching flames in aid of special needs children.

The team of seven staff from Milligan’s garage will claw through mud on their hands and knees and swim through 10 tons of ice in the Lake District Total Warrior challenge in August.

Manager of the family business Jonathan Milligan, 35, approached Millom Parents and Carers Disability Group in February about their plans to raise cash for the non-profit organisation.

Mr Milligan, of Ulverston, said: “We have been inspired by all the fundraising which has been done by community group in Millom recently and thought it would be something good for us to do involving teamwork and raising money. “We have a lot of customers who have special needs children and learned about the group and how it helps people whose children have disabilities.” He will be joined by Sarah Fallows, Alex Nicholas, Abbie Cummings, his sister Helen Milligan, Liam Hartley and Joe Harvey on the 10k course at Shap Abbey on August 1.

The course has a number of different unusual obstacles including the Human BBQ where runners will leap over a wall of fire, a 20ft long, 4ft deep pool filled with 10 tons of ice, before walking through 100s of dangling electric wires in the Shocker.

Mr Milligan said the staff have been training since February for the tough course which sees people from all over the world travel to take part. He added: “The team has been training solo by taking fitness classes, running, cardio in the gym and playing football. “As usual though we have all left it to the last minute so will be upping our game over the next four weeks. The course claims to be one of the toughest in the country.” http://www.goldengiving.com/f/milliganstotalwarrior
