THREE internationally-acclaimed jazz musicians will be playing an intimate show in South Cumbria next week.

The Prince of Wales, in Foxfield, hosts the highly-regarded trio - comprising Spats Langham, Martin Litton and Richard Vernon - in a special one-off concert on Monday, February 15.

Guitar, banjo and ukulele player Langham has been a star on the circuit since his early teens, appearing with the Hot Spa Stompers and the Charleston Chasers, as well as being a regular booking for the Keswick Jazz Festival.

The Hot Fingers founder member is regarded as a leading expert in 1920s and '30s swing music, and with an easy wit, he is the perfect frontman for a trio that engages diehard and casual jazz fans alike, playing classic jazz, the gypsy swing of Django Reinhardt and early blues of Lonnie Johnson.

He has performed with such notable names as The Pasadena Roof Orchestra, The Temperance Seven, Acker Bilk and The Chris Barber Band.

Pianist Litton is notable for his work with Kenny Ball, but has also performed and recorded with various musicians over his career, including Humphrey Lyttelton, Wally Fawkes and Digby Fairweather.

Vernon, who plays double bass, provided accompaniment for Tommy Burton from 1984 up until his untimely death in 2000, and has also accompanied American heavyweights, Kenny Davern, Howard Alden, Scott Hamilton and Bob Wilber.

At the show on Monday, they will be playing the music and songs of the '20s, '30s and '40s, plus blues, rags, honky tonk, vaudeville, and jazz in the style of Django Reinhartdt.

The show starts at 8pm and tickets can be booked by phoning 01229 716582.
