WHEN you have four children it is essential to have plenty of space in the home and that was a big part of the reason Andy and Jo Giles settled on the house they did. As Andy told SUSAN GOODSON, the large family home also came with a price tag that made it genuine value for money

WHEN Andy took on a new position replacing a worker who was moving to pastures new, he not only took over his job, he also brought his home.

The house offered the Andy and Jo and their children a quiet and peaceful setting but was also handy for the nearest town and all its facilities.

The couple set about making it perfect for their needs, including dividing one big bedroom into two, turning it into a five-bedroom home.

With gardens both front and back and to the sides there is plenty of room for children to play and as there is very little traffic it is a safe environment.

The house, High Bank, The Hill, Millom, has, along with its five bedrooms, three reception rooms, a kitchen, utility room and a family bathroom.

Outside there are gardens and a detached garage. After moving in in 2003, Andy and Jo have really appreciated all the space their home has to offer the family.

They have also taken care of the property both inside and out. Andy explained: “Outside we had the front of the house pebble dashed and had a new roof put on the garage.

"The bathroom is a really good size and we put in a nice modern four-piece contemporary-style suite, including a low level bath with a shower attachment.

"It also has a built-in airing cupboard with shelf space for linen.

"The bedrooms were all double so we split one into two to create a fifth room which has been very handy with four children.

"The master bedroom has the potential for an en suite which we have thought about doing. "Outside we created a patio but as we are both busy the children have made more use of the surround gardens.

"It was only late last year that we re-decorated the entire house into attractive but neutral colours so the new owners have a clean canvas to work with."

The whole house gets plenty of natural light especially after Andy and Jo had all the leylandii cut down.

The family dining room is a welcoming part of the house and the lovely back garden with ceiling rose and coving. The room is set off by the attractive cream decor and beige carpet and has a nice open feel to it thanks to the archway leading into the main lounge, plus there is a door into the kitchen.

All three reception rooms have views of the front or back gardens thanks to the big windows in the house.

The kitchen, which has been fitted with a good range of cream painted base and wall units, looks out over the back garden and again with good-sized windows is a really light room.

Another eye-catching feature of the house is the American pine spindled staircase which leads from the hallway to the first floor landing. The landing overall is a gallery style with banister and spindles with doors to the bedrooms, bathroom and cloak room.

Andy added: "The area is so nice and the neighbours are brilliant "There are lots of places to go walking and it is a good safe area to bring up children."

But work means another move is necessary and so Andy and Jo are selling their home. The house, High Bank, The Hill, Millom, is on the market with Corrie and Co Estate Agents for £289,950.
