SALLY is a real delight with her gentle and friendly nature. This affectionate youngster would make a wonderful addition to any home.

Her engaging nature is a bit of a surprise considering the pain she has been through.

This one-year-old was found in the streets with her front right leg caught in her collar and it had been that way for sometime because it had rubbed badly and even cut through the skin in parts.

She would have been in terrible pain, was unable to walk properly and left in a highly vulnerable state.

Fortunately she was found by a caring stranger who took her to the vets and after a week of skilled care was placed in the hands of charity Animal Welfare in its shelter in Rawlinson Street, Barrow.

She is now close to being back to normal health and her fur is starting to grow back  and she would love and definitely deserves a permanent loving home.

Garfield is another happy and friendly stray.

The vets estimate that this big soft-furred ginger and white boy is probably around four years old.

He is in great condition for a stray but that is because a kind woman was feeding him for a couple of months before bringing him into the shelter.

Grey and white Johnnie has found himself a young friend in the shelter after the little black and white Penny found her way into his apartment during the night.

It has proved to be a happy accident and Johnnie is happy of eight-week-old Penny's company.

Their carers in the shelter came in in the morning to find the two cuddled up together although they look more timid in their picture here because they did not like the flash of the camera.

The two had a similar start to life because Johnnie came into the shelter as a stray while little Penny was found in a garden.

They can be rehomed separately but are enjoying each others company in the shelter.

Little ginger and white Freya came in with three kittens as her owners could not find permanent homes for the family.

Despite her size, one-year-old  Freya had actually given birth to a litter of six of which three had been rehomed by her owners.

The shelter has now found homes for her three kittens, but now Freya wants her own permanent place.
