HAVING been a farmer the outside of a home is just as important to William Wilson as the inside. As he told SUSAN GOODSON being able to find a home with beautiful views was a real bonus

IT was Wiliam Wilson’s wife Mamie who spotted the house 25 years ago when the couple were looking to move off their farm. The house met everything needed for the whole family – enough space and bedrooms for the couple and their three sons.

The house 6 Sheriff Bank, Off Mount Pleasant, Greenodd, has an entrance hall, sitting room, dining room, a conservatory, lounge/diner, kitchen, bathroom, four bedrooms, utility room and a study.

Outside there is garage and the majority of the land lies to the back. This includes a generous-sized paved patio extending around two sides of the conservatory and leading on to an immaculate lawn with banked flowerbeds with beautiful Lakeland slate retaining walls.

There is an ornamental pond which has a re-circulating waterfall feature running through the flower beds.

For William moving from the farm at Grizebeck was a big change but he loved the fact that thanks to the great positioning of the house no-one can ever build in front of it.

There is even a wood to one side which has meant they get to see quite a lot of wild life.

William said: We did not have to do too much to the house when we bought it, but I have spent a lot of time working to keep it immaculate.

“I am a bit of a perfectionist.

“We did create the rose garden at the front of the property.

“The house was privately built and they knew what they were doing, but it was definitely the views which I have enjoyed the most.

“The other day I was sitting having my lunch and a male fox came sniffing around the garden where I had been weeding.

“It was so nice to see him looking unconcerned.

“Then recently I was having my lunch in the conservatory and although I had not heard them in the woods this spring, I looked up and saw a couple of woodpeckers in the trees.”

It takes a lot for William not to sit up at the table when eating, but the wonderful wildlife has dragged him away.

Talking about the rooms though, William said: “Although you could easily turn the kitchen and dining room into one, I like having separate rooms and having the kitchen to myself when I am cooking. “I am happy for guests to be sitting in the dining room or the lounge.”

One of Williams favourite parts of the house is the lounge.

He adds: “The lounge is really big so I don’t use it often, but I do like sitting in it and enjoying the peace. “It is also where I have a lot of my clocks and I can just sit and appreciate what I have.”

Both house and the garden have benefited from Williams hard work and care, but he now feels he wants to downsize.

Sadly Mamie has died and the three boys have grown up and left home.

William is now looking for a smaller house as he doesn’t feel he will always be able to keep the property as close to perfect as he can which is how he likes it.

The house, 6 Sheriff Bank, Off Mount Pleasant, Greenodd, is on the market with Poole Townsend for £395,000. For further details please call the agent on 01229 588111 or call into the office at County Square, Ulverston.
