THE History of Kirkby Group has installed a panoramic plaque and seat at Wallend, Kirkby.

The plaque identifies and gives the heights of the hills, fells and mountains whuch can be seen from this elevated position.

The slate was donated by Burlington Stone and engraved by thefirm from a drawing done by a member of the history group.

It covers the range of hills from Black Coombe to the Old Man of Coniston.

The seat, constructed locally by George Metcalfe, allows walkers to sit and contemplate the magnificent views.

The installation was carried out by William Todd and Andrew Metcalfe and the project was funded by contributions from CGP, village members and the History of Kirkby Group.

This project is a follow on from the plaque installed by the History of Kirkby Group in St Cuthbert’s Churchyard in Beckside, Kirkby, giving details about the war dead commemorated on the war memorial.
