Everything you need to build and equip a model railway will be available alongside the dozen detailed layouts on show at Cumbria's biggest model railway exhibition this weekend.

New layouts on show today and tomorrow at the Energus building, Blackwood Road, Lillyhall, Workington, include Curwen Bank, by Workington modeller Ray Cottier and based on his home town.

Among the trade stands and society displays will be the Cumbrian Railways Association which has just launched a new book by David Joy called An Introduction to Cumbrian Railways.

The show, which has free parking and is served by regular bus services from Workington and Whitehaven railway stations, is open to 5pm today and from 10am to 4pm tomorrow.

Crafty Hobbies of Cavendish Street, Barrow, has limited stocks of a model wagon in the livery of the Dalton-in-Furness Co-operative Society.

Being launched at the exhibition is a new model wagon featuring the logo of biscuit makers Carrs of Carlisle, which has been commissioned by C&M Models.

Workington Transport Heritage Trust will at the show to talk about their hopes for a permanent home to display a collection of buses and other transport items.

The trust has just been told it will have to vacate its base at the Old Fire Station, Workington, and desperately needs new premises.

Derwent Railway Society holds winter slide shows in Distington and has an active modelling group based in Cleator Moor.

It will have a photographic display showing images taken on local railway lines.

Admission to the exhibition costs £5 with accompanied children free. Also included is a free programme listing everything on display.
