LEFT-BACK Andy McWilliams has left Barrow AFC and is expected to join Coneference North side Harrogate Town.

McWilliams joined the Bluebirds last summer and made 21 appearances for the club in 2014/15.

Boss Darren Edmondson said: “I think Harrogate tried their hand to see if Andy would be available. I spoke to Andy about it and obviously with (left-back) Neil Ashton coming in, he wants to play football.

“And we decided that, from the point of view of him playing more football, he was going to get more game time at Harrogate.

“I left it up to Andy really, option-wise, and he said that it would be more beneficial for him at this stage to play having missed quite a few games last season.

“He just wants to play football. He’s a very honest and a very fit young man and he wants to play as many games as he can. So we decided to let him go.”

Edmondson currently has no plans to replace McWilliams in his squad.
