LINDA Unsworth, of Marsh Street, Barrow, was the new Barrow Road Safety Queen. The telephonist and receptionist was chosen at a social event held at the Old Mill Cafe, Bardsea. Her first official duty was to hand out cycling proficiency certificates at Barrow’s ABC cinema.

DALTON Council was to lodge a protest about planned bus fare increases by Ribble Motor Services, which would push prices above a shilling (5p) a mile.

ELEANOR Cornish was the new chairman of Dalton Urban District Council and took over from Fred Baker.

BARROW pop band Chapter 5 has its new single One in a Million feature on the show Juke Box Jury. They could be heard in concert at the County Hall, Millom.
