Ulverston magistrates paid tribute to Chief Insp Henry Dolphin who was to retire from the police force after more than 30 years.

British Rail turned down a request from Barrow Trades Council to restore the steamer service between Barrow, Fleetwood and Blackpool. The service had been ended in 1960 and there was no suitable vessel available.

There was a chance to meet Barrow AFC Players and the club's Miss Zigger personality girl at a cabaret and dance held at the 99 Club, in Dalkeith Street, Barrow.
